Abstract

The author argues that the interest in this case is mainlybased on a
premise:
A 'traumatic event' of this type determines in the surviving victim a
complicated grieving disorder due to the coexistence of some distinctive
elements: acute, threatening and unpredictability, which often persist even
years after the event.
Integrating the traumatic event into a 'narrative plot' interrupted and
disorganized by the trauma means relocating the danger connected to the
event over time and transforming pain into more complex emotions. The
interest in this case arises from the clinical need to make what is most
unnatural in a person's life 'coherent', such as losing a parent to murder.
